Moreno Valley has gone 8-2 against Canyon Springs recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Vikings will host the Cougars at 7:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few points on average (Moreno Valley 13.9, Canyon Springs 13.8) so any points scored will be well earned.
Canyon Springs will be up against a hot Moreno Valley squad: the team just extended their winning streak to four. The Vikings breezed past Lakeside to the tune of 43-7 on Thursday. Given the Vikings' advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 329th, while the Lancers are ranked 807th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Moreno Valley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Trevon Williams led the charge by rushing for 193 yards and three scores while picking up 8.0 yards per carry. That's the most rushing touchdowns Williams has posted since back in September of 2024. Syree Matthews was another key passer, throwing for 161 yards and a pair of TDs on only 15 passes.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Moreno Valley was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 304 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 180 rushing yards in six consecutive matchups.
Another reason for the win was Moreno Valley's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for six sacks. Leading the way was Andrew Delatorre with three. He has been hot, having also posted five or more total tackles the last five times he's played.
Meanwhile, after some red-hot attacks on offense in their last eight contests, Canyon Springs finally came back down to earth on Friday. They came up short against Perris, falling 33-7. The defensive woes were uncharacteristic for the Cougars, who until this game were averaging 13.78 points allowed.
Moreno Valley will have to contain Angel Robles as he made an impact in Canyon Springs' last game. He rushed for 129 yards and one touchdown while picking up 8.1 yards per carry.
Moreno Valley's win bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Canyon Springs, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 7-2.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Moreno Valley has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 231.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Canyon Springs struggles in that department as they've been averaging 234.6 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Moreno Valley was able to grind out a solid victory over Canyon Springs in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, winning 41-28. Do the Vikings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
