Great Crossing is a perfect 4-0 against Western Hills since April of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. Great Crossing will venture away from home to challenge Western Hills at 5:45 p.m. Great Crossing's pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so Western Hills' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Western Hills will be up against a hot Great Crossing squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. Great Crossing was the clear victor by a 13-4 margin over Model on Thursday. The result was nothing new for Great Crossing, who have now won five matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.
Zach Zinger was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Zinger was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brenton Alcorn, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Cooper Duvall, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Great Crossing hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Western Hills hadn't done well against Franklin County recently (they were 1-7-1 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Wolverines came out on top against the Flyers by a score of 9-4.
Like Great Crossing, Western Hills also got a great game from a two-way player: Cole Semones. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). Those ten strikeouts gave Semones a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run.
In other batting news, Noah Morris was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Asher Gatewood was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
Western Hills' win was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Great Crossing, their record now sits at 8-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Great Crossing has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Western Hills struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Great Crossing's way against Western Hills in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Great Crossing made off with a 13-0 win. Does Great Crossing have another victory up their sleeve, or will Western Hills turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
