With a playoff win on the line, East Duplin rose to the challenge on Friday. They claimed a resounding 48-20 win over North Johnston. East Duplin might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by 20 points or more this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead East Duplin to victory, but perhaps none more so than Aaron Hall, who rushed for 162 yards and three touchdowns on only nine carries. Those 162 rushing yards gave Hall a new career-high. Shawn Davis was another major influence, as he rushed for 173 yards and ran in a TD.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: East Duplin was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 380 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
East Duplin didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Keeshon McKinnie and Dwayne Davis. Another thorn in North Johnston's side was Ayden Lane, who made 14 total tackles (1.0 for loss).
Defeat or not, North Johnston got some senior leadership from Maleek Farris-Teachey and Kaleb Pone. Farris-Teachey rushed for 116 yards and one TD on only 15 carries, while Pone rushed for 126 yards while picking up 7.9 yards per carry. Those 116 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Farris-Teachey.
The victory (which was East Duplin's sixth in a row) raised their record to 9-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 11.5 points on average over those games. As for North Johnston, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-6.
