The Freeman Mavericks will venture away from home to square off against the Louisa County Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Freeman had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 12-run drubbing they dealt J.R. Tucker on Friday. The Mavericks' pitcher stepped up to hand the Tigers a 12-0 shutout. The Mavericks haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Caroline Baird was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. Baird was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season.
In other batting news, Kayleigh Perks was incredible, firing off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryleigh Perks, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI.
Freeman always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Louisa County waltzed into their game on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the Patriots with a sharp 20-1 victory. The Lions' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Regan McCavanagh made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other pitching news, Lily Ruckle looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single walk any time she's pitched this season.
Back at the plate, Lauren Goodman was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Maya Akrum, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Louisa County pushed their record up to 6-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Freeman, the win got them back to even at 5-5.
