Garces Memorial hasn't had much luck against Frontier recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Rams will look to defend their home field against the Titans at 6:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Garces Memorial 1.9, Frontier 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Garces Memorial proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 11) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Clovis East 6-4.
Garces Memorial got a great performance from Jaiden Gutierrez as she didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. Gutierrez has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 17 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Viviana Sanchez was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI. Lexi Marquez was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Frontier got the win against Liberty last Wednesday by a conclusive 12-1. The Titans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by six runs or more this season.
Taylor Sloss was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and not a single walk). Sloss was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Charley Hawkins was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bailey Freeborn, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Garces Memorial is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups. That somehow still isn't as good as their 16-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Frontier, their win bumped their record up to 10-7.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Garces Memorial hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .333. However, it's not like Frontier struggles in that department as they've averaged .333. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
