SANTA CLARA, Calif. - After five lead changes,
Wilcox (Santa Clara, Calif.) took the lead for good when
Roland Luke thew a touchdown to
Alex Ortiz with 6:00 remaining in the fourth quarter and held on to beat
Santa Clara (Calif.) 36-26 on Saturday.
The Chargers led 14-13 at halftime, but the Bruins recaptured the lead on a
Delshawn Mitchell touchdown run with less than a minute remaining in the third.
Wilcox expanded its lead to three points entering the fourth quarter. WHS scored two times in the third, including once on a Mitchell touchdown run.
The Chargers' standout player in the win was Luke. The senior running back threw one touchdown and ran for one touchdown. He has now scored seven touchdowns on the season.
Adam Garza made a difference for Santa Clara. The junior running back ran for two touchdowns. He has now scored 10 touchdowns on the season.
SC came in allowing just 14.3 points per game this season. The Bruins struggled against Wilcox, which came in averaging 29.0 points per game.
WHS also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 40-20.
Wilcox (5-3) goes up against Homestead in a De Anza game matchup next week, while Santa Clara (5-3) locks horns with Los Gatos also in a De Anza game.
