The Union Pines Vikings came tearing into Tuesday's contest with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 79-71 victory over Lee County. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Union Pines was led to victory by Aiden Leonard and Jaylen Kyle. Leonard scored 19 points along with eight assists, while Kyle scored 23 points along with nine rebounds and six steals. Those nine rebounds set a new season-high mark for Kyle. Another player making a difference was Zion Kiser, who scored nine points.
Lee County lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jayden Hill, who scored 19 points. The game was Hill's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nic Farrow, who scored 16 points.
Union Pines pushed their record up to 8-1 with that victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for Lee County, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.
Union Pines will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Triton at 4:00 p.m. on December 27th. As for Lee County, they have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Hoke County at 7:30 p.m. on December 15th. Hoke County presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Lee County in North Carolina (Hoke County is ranked 162nd, while Lee County is ranked 504th).
