The McDowell Titans stacked a 12th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Wednesday. They breezed by Asheville on the road to the tune of 81-35. The win was familiar territory for McDowell who now have five in a row.
McDowell got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kensly Stewart out in front who scored 17 points. Stewart is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Abby Wyatt, who scored 15 points.
When it comes to explaining why Asheville lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jaelyn Jacoby. Despite the final result, she scored 14 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Jacoby continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.
McDowell pushed their record up to 13-2 with that win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.0 points per game. As for Asheville, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. McDowell will face off against Erwin at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Erwin will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 228th, while McDowell is ranked 56th). As for Asheville, they will head out on the road to square off against North Buncombe at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully North Buncombe focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Wednesday.
