The Dawson School Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They took a 62-46 bruising from Belleview Christian. While losing is never fun, Dawson School can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 226th, while Belleview Christian is ranked 60th).
When it comes to explaining why Dawson School lost, one person who can't be blamed is Peter Ernst. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 21 points and 20 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Ernst has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jackson Parker, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Even though they lost, Dawson School smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Belleview Christian only pulled down two offensive rebounds.
Belleview Christian's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Brandon Ewing, who scored 23 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Ewing is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Garrett Owen, who scored 18 points along with two blocks.
Dawson School has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season. As for Belleview Christian, they pushed their record up to 12-1 with that victory, which was their 14th straight on the road.
Dawson School won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against SkyView Academy at 7:30 p.m. on January 19th. SkyView Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven games -- so hopefully Dawson School likes a good challenge. As for Belleview Christian, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Lone Star at 7:30 p.m.
