The Melrose Golden Wildcats were the 69-67 winner over the Kirby Cougars when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Melrose fell 70-62 to Kirby on Wednesday. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Despite the loss, Melrose still got an impressive performance from Devin Sanders Jr, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 17 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Sanders Jr has scored all season. Sadat Muhammad was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Melrose are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 18-9. That rough patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.7 points per game. As for Kirby, their win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-15.
Melrose will take on Hamilton at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hamilton knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six contests -- so hopefully Melrose likes a good challenge. Kirby does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
