Maria Carrillo will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Friday, then bounced right back against Piner on Monday. The Pumas put the hurt on the Prospectors with a sharp 12-2 win. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Pumas' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Landon Diehm looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Maria Carrillo is 3-1 when Diehm allows one or fewer hits, but 8-10 otherwise.

At the plate, Maria Carrillo got a massive performance out of Eli Jamieson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two doubles. Those four RBI gave Jamieson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlie Toig, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Maria Carrillo was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .469. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Cardinal Newman duked it out with Rancho Cotate on Friday. The Cardinals had just enough and edged out the Cougars 3-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cardinals.
Cardinal Newman's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Miles St. Clair, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
The win got Maria Carrillo back to even at 11-11. As for Cardinal Newman, they now have a winning record of 11-10.
Maria Carrillo suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Cardinal Newman when the teams last played back in April. Can the Pumas avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
