The Smoky Mountain Mustangs suffered their biggest defeat since December 15, 2023 on Monday. They were beaten by East Henderson 74-43. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Smoky Mountain in their matchups with East Henderson: they've now lost five in a row.
Smoky Mountain lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Custer Prenger, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and four blocks. Prenger hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Angel Hernandez, who scored ten points.
It was another big night for Caiden Brewer, who scored 24 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds for East Henderson. Brewer is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last 13 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Wyatt Taylor, who scored nine points along with five steals.
Smoky Mountain's defeat was their 13th straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 4-14. As for East Henderson, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 14-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Smoky Mountain will take on Pisgah at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pisgah knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven matches -- so hopefully Smoky Mountain likes a good challenge. As for East Henderson, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Franklin at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Franklin focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine last Tuesday.
