The Cairo Syrupmakers entered their tilt with the Westover Patriots with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Cairo sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 77-74 win over the Patriots on Friday. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Keshen Spence continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, almost dropping a double-double on 39 points and nine rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted 16 or more points the last six times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Davion Tarver, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Despite the loss, Westover saw an underclassman step up: Greg Williams dropped a double-double on 25 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Williams has scored all season. Bryson Carter was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with two steals.
Cairo's victory was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-8. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.2 points per game. As for Westover, their loss dropped their record down to 12-9.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cairo won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Raiders at 5:30 p.m. on February 3rd. Shaw knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matchups -- so hopefully the Syrupmakers like a good challenge. As for Westover, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Greenwave at 7:30 p.m. on February 3rd. Terrell County is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 63.9 points per game this season.
