Mojave has gone 7-2 against Clark recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Rattlers will look to defend their home field against the Chargers at 3:30 p.m. Mojave has given up an average of 8.9 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Mojave fell victim to Desert Oasis and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They came up short against the Diamondbacks, falling 15-0. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Rattlers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Clark, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They came out on top against Durango by a score of 9-5 on Thursday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Chargers as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Sophia DeMonbrun and Alex Spatharos made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, DeMonbrun pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Spatharos struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits. DeMonbrun has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. At bat, DeMonbrun went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI, while Spatharos earned one run and two stolen bases.
In other batting news, Paola Garcia was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Noel Gregorich, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.
Clark's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-6-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for Mojave, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.
Friday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Mojave has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .465. However, it's not like Clark struggles in that department as they've averaged .506. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
