Pine Creek came tearing into Thursday's contest with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Fountain-Fort Carson Trojans with a sharp 18-0 victory. Considering the Eagles have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Dane Dial was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double.
In other pitching news, Cade Johnson looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.
Back at the plate, Pine Creek got a massive performance out of Jake Holm, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Holm also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Tristan Mullis was another key player, going 4-for-5 with four runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.
Pine Creek was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .515. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .318 or higher in six consecutive matchups.
Pine Creek's record now sits at 14-3. As for Fountain-Fort Carson, they dropped their record down to 8-12 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pine Creek will take on Air Academy at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Kadets have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.79 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Fountain-Fort Carson, they will face off against Pueblo West at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Trojans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cyclones have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season.
