Chaparral hasn't had much luck against Douglas County recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Wolverines will venture away from home to challenge the Huskies at 4:00 p.m. Chaparral is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.
While Chaparral's victory against Bear Creek wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Wolverines skirted past the Bears 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wolverines have posted since May 18, 2024.
Josh Sutrina was excellent, going 1-for-2 with four RBI and one run. Josh McWilliams was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Douglas County, who bounced back after a loss on the road two weeks ago. They walked away with a 6-3 victory over Rocky Mountain on Saturday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Huskies as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.
The team relied heavily on Jordan Blatter, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Jeremiah Morey also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.
Chaparral's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Douglas County, their victory bumped their record up to 3-7.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Chaparral hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Douglas County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Chaparral came out on top in a nail-biter against Douglas County in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 7-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolverines since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
