After a string of four wins, the Centura Centurions's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell 38-28 to Grand Island Central Catholic. While losing is never fun, Centura can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 53rd, while Grand Island Central Catholic is ranked tenth).
Several Centurions players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kailey Coghlan, who scored nine points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kennedy Davis, who scored five points along with eight rebounds.
Grand Island Central Catholic's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bryndal Moody, who scored 16 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which Moody has scored at least 25% of Grand Island Central Catholic's points. Carolyn Maser was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with 11 rebounds and three blocks.
Centura's defeat dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Grand Island Central Catholic, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Centura will square off against Ord at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Ord focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 last Friday. Grand Island Central Catholic won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Lincoln Christian at 6:00 p.m. on December 15th. Lincoln Christian is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
