With a playoff game on the line, the Venice Indians rose to the challenge on Wednesday. They walked away with a 60-47 victory over the Sailors. Winning may never get old, but Venice sure is getting used to it with their seventh in a row.
Taylor Orris had a dynamite game for Venice, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Izzy Leggett, who scored eight points along with six assists.
Sarasota's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kennedy McClain, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and two blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Sofi Miller, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Venice pushed their record up to 14-9 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.7 points per game. As for Sarasota, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 15-9.
Venice will take on Riverview Sarasota at TBD on Friday. One thing working in Venice's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last seven games. As for Sarasota, they will square off against Sickles at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Florida (Sickles is ranked 67th, while Sarasota is ranked 72nd).
