The Covington Trojans will be home for the holidays to greet the Lafayette Central Catholic Knights at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Covington unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of McCutcheon by a score of 46-44. Covington has not had much luck with McCutcheon recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Despite their loss, Covington saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Coye Ferguson, who scored 9 points along with 10 rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Kolten Haymaker, who scored 10 points.
Meanwhile, Lafayette Central Catholic had to suffer through a rough 66-34 loss at the hands of Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory. While losing is never fun, Lafayette Central Catholic can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 119th, while Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory is ranked 25th).
Despite their loss, Lafayette Central Catholic saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Ray Clayton, who scored 9 points, was perhaps the best of all. Nick Page was another key contributor, scoring 7 points.
Covington's victory lifted them to 6-3 while McCutcheon's defeat dropped them down to 1-5.
Keep an eye on the arc in Friday's matchup: Covington have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 4.6 threes per game. It's a different story for Lafayette Central Catholic, though, as they've been averaging only 6.5 per game. Given Covington's sizeable advantage in that area, Lafayette Central Catholic will need to find a way to close that gap.
