Morton is 0-3 against Sundown since March of 2025 but things could change on Tuesday. The Indians will host the Roughnecks at 5:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Saturday, Morton made easy work of Seagraves and carried off an 18-2 victory.
Audrie Garcia made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Garcia was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs.
In other batting news, J'Lynn Marquez was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February. Maya Huckabee was another key player, going 1-for-3 with six stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Sundown put their dominant pitcher on display in the team's fourth consecutive shutout on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Tahoka an 18-0 shutout. The Roughnecks haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Like Morton, Sundown also got a great game from a two-way player: Breigh Gregory. She struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Gregory has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Sundown got a massive performance out of Nayleen Morin, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That home run marked the first that Morin has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Destiny Garza, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and one double.
Sundown kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive contests.
Sundown's victory bumped their record up to 17-3. As for Morton, their win bumped their record up to 8-14.
Tuesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Morton has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .490. However, it's not like Sundown struggles in that department as they've averaged .532. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Morton might still be hurting after the 20-0 loss they got from Sundown in their previous matchup back in March. Will the Indians have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
