Fayetteville's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brenton Cantrell led the charge by picking up 56 receiving yards and one score, while also punching in one touchdown on the ground. That's the most receiving yards Cantrell has posted since back in September. Speaking of playmakers, who could forget Brennon Marlin, who went all the way with a kickoff return for a touchdown.
Fayetteville's run defense was locked in: Brilliant could only muster 2.7 yards per carry. The team can thank Ty Stone for the heroic effort on defense: he. Fayetteville didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 21.1.
Special teams played a big role in the game for Fayetteville, adding 11 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Marlin, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Berry took on Victory Christian on Friday. The Wildcats blew past the Lions 52-14. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 38-0.
Fayetteville better focus on containing Ayden Lake Norris and Jayden Smith as the pair were huge in Berry's win. Lake Norris rushed for 182 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 9.1 yards per carry, while Smith rushed for 66 yards and one touchdown on only five carries. Lake Norris' rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 140 rushing yards.
Fayetteville's record is now 8-2. As for Berry, their record now sits at an identical 8-2.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Fayetteville has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 281.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Berry struggles in that department as they've been averaging 208.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
