Zapata hasn't had much luck against Calallen recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Hawks will venture away from home to challenge the Wildcats at 7:00 p.m.
Things were looking good for Zapata after they put the first run on the board on Thursday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Robstown by a score of 5-4.
Mario Garcia and Jay Solis stepped up to the plate in a big way. Garcia went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI, while Solis went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Diego Villarreal, who went 2-for-4 with two runs.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Calallen). Their pitchers stepped up to hand King a 26-0 shutout on Thursday. Considering the Wildcats have won 15 matches by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Chase Lynch made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Lucas Saenz looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Sebastian Dennis was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four runs, and one stolen base. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Carson Klostermann also deserves some recognition as he got his first hits of the season.
Calallen always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as King only posted an OBP of .000.
The win made it two in a row for Calallen and bumps their season record up to 25-1. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.5 runs over those games. As for Zapata, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-9.
Zapata suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Calallen when the teams last played two weeks ago. Can the Hawks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
