Softball Recap: Tuesday's Victory Is Mount Vernon's 12th in Last 13 Outings

Mount Vernon put their dominant pitchers on display in the team's third consecutive shutout on Tuesday. They never let the Prairiland Patriots get on the board and left with a 13-0 win. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 16 contests by seven runs or more this season.

Samantha Edge made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Mount Vernon let Haley Danielson and Olivia Baird run wild. Danielson went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Baird scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. Baird has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Trinity Barron, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Mount Vernon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .542. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .391 or higher in 11 consecutive matchups.

Mount Vernon has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-5-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Prairiland, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-15.
