Wilson Hall has been on the road for three straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Laurence Manning Academy Swampcats at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Wilson Hall focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Wednesday.
Wilson Hall fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Cardinal Newman but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 61-54 to the Cardinals. Wilson Hall found out winning isn't easy when you're outrebounded 18 to ten on offense.
Despite their loss, Wilson Hall saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Daniel Burton, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Burton has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last 12 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jones Deschamps, who scored eight points.
Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Laurence Manning Academy ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They had just enough and edged Trinity Collegiate out 65-62. The win was just what Laurence Manning Academy needed coming off of a 78-48 defeat in their prior match.
Laurence Manning Academy's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Shane Goines, who scored 22 points, and Josiah Burson, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. Thomas Sumpter was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with two steals.
Wilson Hall's loss dropped their record down to 19-7. As for Laurence Manning Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season.
Wilson Hall was able to grind out a solid win over Laurence Manning Academy in their previous matchup back in January, winning 63-53. Will Wilson Hall repeat their success, or does Laurence Manning Academy have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
