Belleview is a perfect 7-0 against Leesburg since February of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Rattlers will take on the Yellow Jackets at 7:00 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Monday.
Belleview was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against P.K. Yonge on Friday. The Rattlers were the clear victors by an 8-2 margin over the Blue Wave.
Ally Axe made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. Axe was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-4. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Harper Foote and Mackenzie Quartararo did most of the damage at the plate: Foote scored two runs while going 2-for-4, while Quartararo scored a run while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Randi O'Cull, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Belleview kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
19 must be Leesburg's lucky number: they beat Eastside with that score not once but twice on Wednesday. The Yellow Jackets were the clear victors by a 19-4 margin over the Rams. The result was nothing new for the Yellow Jackets, who have now won 11 matches by seven runs or more so far this season.
Like Belleview, Leesburg also got a great game from a two-way player: Rachel Chiles. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Chiles has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.
In other batting news, Leesburg got a massive performance out of Hailey Toothaker, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Toothaker has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Kennadi Williams also deserves some recognition as she hit her first doubles of the season.
Leesburg is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Belleview, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Belleview has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Leesburg struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Belleview's way against Leesburg when the teams last played back in April of 2019, as Belleview made off with a 13-1 victory. Do the Rattlers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Yellow Jackets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
