Even though the Liberty Christian Lions scored an imposing 56 points on Friday, the Anderson Indians still came out on top. Anderson rang in the new year with a 67-56 win over Liberty Christian. Given Anderson's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 45th, while Liberty Christian is ranked 173rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Damien King, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of Anderson's points. Javon Warfield was another key contributor, scoring 17 points.
Liberty Christian lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Kendrick Martin, who scored 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tamarje English, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds.
The victory (which was Anderson's third in a row) raised their record to 9-2. As for Liberty Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 8-5.
Anderson will be playing in front of their home fans against Lafayette Jefferson at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Lafayette Jefferson is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last six games. As for Liberty Christian, they will head out on the road to face off against Seton Catholic at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Seton Catholic focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 last Friday.
