Arundel has gone 9-1 against South River recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Wildcats will head out to challenge the Seahawks at 4:45 p.m. Arundel is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
While Arundel's win against Annapolis wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Wildcats narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Panthers 2-1. Those two runs were actually the fewest the Wildcats have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.
Jackson Haslup tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over 5.2 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Arundel's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Grayson O'Donnell, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one double.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, South River's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They fell just short of North County by a score of 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Seahawks have suffered against the Knights since April 20, 2018.
Parker Box put in work while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Box was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Those RBI were his first of the season.
In other batting news, Nolan Hooker was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Chase Lutterbie also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Arundel's victory ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-6. As for South River, their loss dropped their record down to 5-2.
Arundel's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's match. The Wildcats have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for South River, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Arundel continue to outrun the ball?
