The Sayre Sabres waltzed into their matchup Thursday with four straight wins but they left with five. They pulled ahead with a 42-41 photo finish over Strawberry Mansion. Given Sayre's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 202nd, while Strawberry Mansion is ranked 605th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sayre had a senior duo take command as Josh Rollins scored 14 points and Carlos Brown scored 11 points. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for him.
Sayre pushed their record up to 5-1 with that win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.7 points per game. As for Strawberry Mansion, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-6.
Sayre will be home for the holidays to greet Samuel Fels at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Strawberry Mansion, they will head out on the road to face off against MAST Charter II at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
