The NSU University Sharks pushed their score all the way to 80 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 88-80 to Hialeah Educational Academy. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Thursday (66), NSU University still had to take the loss.
Despite the defeat, NSU University had strong showings from Dwight Gaines, who scored 30 points, and Anthony Ferrer, who scored 25 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gaines has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Darwin Brooks, who scored eight points.
Hialeah Educational Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Reece Randolph, who scored 30 points along with eight assists. That's the first time this season that Randolph posted eight or more assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Chris Levy, who scored 22 points along with two steals.
NSU University's loss dropped their record down to 14-5. As for Hialeah Educational Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season.
NSU University will head out on the road to square off against Chaminade-Madonna at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Chaminade-Madonna focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up six on Monday. As for Hialeah Educational Academy, Hialeah Educational Academy and International Studies will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 24th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: International Studies has struggled recently with six losses in a row, while Hialeah Educational Academy will arrive with three straight wins.
