If the Oakcrest Chargers were riding high off their 43-14 takedown of the St. James Saints on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Oakcrest fell to Madeira 55-49. Oakcrest was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Madeira apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.
Kate Newsome and Mary Mehan certainly did their best on Saturday to try and avoid the loss. Newsome scored 18 points along with four steals, while Mehan scored six points along with 15 rebounds and three steals. Mehan is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Catherine Dunch, who scored ten points along with four steals.
Oakcrest has fallen quite a ways from their 18-8 record last season and are now at 2-5. As for Madeira, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Oakcrest will take on Foxcroft at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Madeira, they will play host again and welcome Holton-Arms, where tip off is scheduled for 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
