Archbishop Mitty is 0-10 against Junipero Serra since November of 2016 but things could change on Friday. The Monarchs will look to defend their home field against the Padres at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Archbishop Mitty took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They walked away with a 27-20 win over Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory.

Archbishop Mitty had a senior duo take command as Joseph Engin rushed for 108 yards and two TDs on only eight carries and Lazaro Faraj-Washington gained 164 total yards and a touchdown. Those 108 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Engin.
Archbishop Mitty was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 223 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 155 rushing yards in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Junipero Serra entered their tilt with Saint Francis on Saturday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They came out on top against the Lancers by a score of 41-28.
This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Jeovanni Henley and Iziah Singleton. Henley rushed for 86 yards and a pair of scores on only five carries while Singleton rushed for 97 yards and one touchdown. Those 86 rushing yards gave Henley a new career-high. Speaking of playmakers, who could forget Jayden Aparicio, who went all the way with a kickoff return for a touchdown.
Special teams was a major factor in the game for Junipero Serra, racking up 15 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Aparicio, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Junipero Serra's defense made their presence known, laying out Drew Cumby four times. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece. Another thorn in Saint Francis' side was Peyton Thomas, who picked up a sack and made five total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Junipero Serra now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Archbishop Mitty, their victory bumped their record up to 5-2.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Archbishop Mitty has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 174.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Junipero Serra struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 164.7 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Archbishop Mitty was taken down by Junipero Serra 56-21 when the teams last played back in October of 2024. Thankfully for the Monarchs, Nano Latu (who rushed for 143 yards and three TDs on only ten carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
