The Navajo Prep Eagles stacked an eighth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Tuesday. They took their match on the road with ease, bagging a 74-32 win over Zuni. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 43-22.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Navajo Prep to victory, but perhaps none more so than Xavier Nez, who went 6 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 28 points and 3 assists. Nez has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last nine times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jude Thomas, who scored 21 points along with five assists and three steals.
The win (which was Navajo Prep's fourth in a row) raised their record to 10-4. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 80.3 points per game. As for Zuni, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-9.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Navajo Prep will take on Wingate at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Wingate will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New Mexico Rankings (they are ranked 110th, while Navajo Prep is ranked 19th). As for Zuni, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Crownpoint at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Crownpoint is no doubt hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses.
