Basketball Recap: Flint Academy Comes Up Short

Flint Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 20th straight loss dating back to last season. They were outmatched by the Faustina Academy Falcons and fell 66-24. Sadly, that's the fourth time they've come up short against Flint Academy this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 51-24 back in January.

Flint Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ben Carlton, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 rebounds. That was a full 37.5% of Flint Academy's points, marking the third time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Josh Carlton, who had five points and nine boards.

Even though they lost, Flint Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 22 offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Faustina Academy found their leader in sophomore Marcos Mollo, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. Mollo is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Joseph Cook was another key player, putting up eight points and four steals.

Flint Academy's loss dropped their record down to 0-9. As for Faustina Academy, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-2.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Dallas Academy the next time they take the court. Faustina Academy will head out to face Dallas Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, while Flint Academy will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
