Basketball Recap: The Rock Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Callie West and Ruby Patterson

The Rock lost against Buchholz back in November of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Rock Lions took a 71-64 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Buchholz Bobcats. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Thursday (58), the Lions still had to take the loss.

The Rock's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Ruby Patterson, who went 7 of 13 on her way to 18 points along with eight boards and six assists, and Callie West, who went 7 for 13 en route to 16 points and six rebounds. The game was Patterson's seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Marlin Tyson, who posted seven points and eight rebounds.

Buchholz was led to victory by Taylor Booth and Ja'Niyah Fillmore. Booth went 9 of 15 on her way to 23 points, while Fillmore went 9 for 12 en route to 21 points. The dominant performance gave Fillmore a new career-high in points. Kennedy Wyckoff was another key player, putting up ten points.

The Rock has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-18 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.3 points per game. As for Buchholz, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-10.

The Rock didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 68-30 victory against Excel Christian Academy on the 25th. As for Buchholz, they will square off against Hawthorne at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hawthorne knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three games -- so hopefully Buchholz likes a good challenge.
