East Central has gone a perfect 7-0 against Richmond recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Trojans will welcome the Red Devils at 5:30 p.m. East Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
On Monday, East Central beat Connersville 6-1. The Trojans have beaten the Spartans the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Spartans has come to flipping the script.
Paige Hotze made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Taylor Sommer, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Broegan Knuz, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
East Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Richmond was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against Centerville, falling 24-1.
Richmond saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kyla Rogan, who went 1-for-2 with one home run.
East Central's win bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Richmond, their loss dropped their record down to 0-6.
Richmond's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: East Central hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .341. It's a different story for Richmond, though, as they've only averaged .202. Will they be able to contain East Central's hitters?
East Central was able to grind out a solid victory over Richmond in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, winning 6-3. Will the Trojans repeat their success, or do the Red Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
