Softball Recap: Illinois Valley Central Has No Trouble Against Putnam County

After losing to Putnam County the last time they met, Illinois Valley Central decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Illinois Valley Central put the hurt on Putnam County with a sharp 13-1 win on Monday. The Grey Ghosts might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by ten runs or more this season.

Caitlyn Gillette was incredible, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Nora Connett, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

Illinois Valley Central is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. Putnam County is on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Illinois Valley Central will venture away from home to take on Princeville at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Illinois Valley Central's pitchers better be ready for this one: Princeville has averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season. As for Putnam County, they are taking a road trip to face off against Amboy at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
