Softball Recap: Lamar Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Lamar entered their tilt with C.A. Johnson on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They never let the Hornets get on the board and left with a 13-0 win. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Silver Foxes also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2016.

Ansley Fishel made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, she posted three strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Jordyn Scarbrough and Cheyanne Anderson did most of the damage at the plate: Scarbrough scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances, while Anderson scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in both of her plate appearances. Scarbrough is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Kynley Fishel was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

Lamar was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They are 5-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Lamar pushed their record up to 8-8 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for C.A. Johnson, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.

Coming up, Lamar will host Darlington at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Silver Foxes' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Falcons have averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season. As for C.A. Johnson, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Columbia at 5:30 p.m. on the 23rd.
