After three games on the road, Staples is heading back home. They will take on the Trumbull Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Friday, Staples beat Ludlowe 51-44.
Staples found their leader in underclassman Sam Clachko, who scored 23 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Clachko hasn't dropped below 19 points for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Tobias, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, even though Norwalk scored an imposing 74 points on Friday, Trumbull still came out on top. Trumbull enjoyed a cozy 90-74 victory over Norwalk. Given Trumbull's advantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut basketball rankings (they are ranked 17th, while Norwalk is ranked 60th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Staples' win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-4. As for Trumbull, their win bumped their record up to 14-2.
Staples didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Trumbull when the teams last played back in February of 2023, but they still walked away with a 50-45 victory. Will Staples repeat their success, or does Trumbull have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
