After flying high against the Modesto Panthers last Friday, the Downey Knights came back down to earth. Downey took a 57-39 bruising from Turlock on Monday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Downey of the 60-56 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January.
Despite the loss, Downey still got an impressive performance from Reuben Lewis, who scored ten points along with seven assists and seven rebounds. Sumer Pannu was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Turlock's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Andrew Johnson, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was Dutch Lawrence, who scored 17 points along with three steals.
Downey's defeat dropped their record down to 10-17. As for Turlock, they now have a winning record of 13-12.
Downey will be playing in front of their home fans against Enochs at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Downey is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 52.7 points per game this season. As for Turlock, they will head out on the road to take on Modesto at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Modesto is coming into the game with nine straight defeats at home, meaning Turlock will have to defend against a squad hungry for a victory.
