The Durango Trailblazers will head out to square off against the Southeast Career Tech Roadrunners at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Durango is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
Durango is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Sierra Vista just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Mountain Lions by a score of 8-7. While the Trailblazers didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Mountain Lions 4-0 in the first period.
Teagan Payne put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over 4.2 innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one double.
In other batting news, Jayden Shuford was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run was his first of the season.
Even though they lost, Durango lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Southeast Career Tech never let their opponents score on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Doral Academy Red Rock as Southeast Career Tech made off with a 16-0 victory. The Roadrunners haven't had any issues with the Dragons recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Asa Briggs looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Southeast Career Tech is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 5-6 otherwise.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Bruce Trzpis, who went 2-for-3 with six RBI, two runs, and two doubles. He has become a key player for Southeast Career Tech: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least three RBI, but 4-6 otherwise. Lucas Jaggers was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
The victory got Southeast Career Tech back to even at 7-7. As for Durango, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-5.
Durango couldn't quite get it done against Southeast Career Tech when the teams last played back in March of 2024 as they fell 4-0. Can Durango avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
