The Union Academy Cardinals scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. Couldn't have asked for a better way to wrap up 2023 than the 85-51 stomp they got on the road against Valor Preparatory Academy. The victory was a breath of fresh air for Union Academy as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.
Union Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aidan Scruitsky, who scored 30 points along with five rebounds and three steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Scruitsky has scored at least 25% of Union Academy's points. Trevin Goodson was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Despite the loss, Valor Preparatory Academy had strong showings from Bishop Witherspoon, who scored 20 points, and Johnathan Lee, who scored 17 points. The game was Witherspoon's eighth in a row with at least ten points.
Union Academy's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-8. As for Valor Preparatory Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-5.
Union Academy is on the road again on Friday and play against North Stanly at 6:00 p.m. on December 29th. One thing working in North Stanly's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last eight games. As for Valor Preparatory Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Piedmont Community Charter at 7:30 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Piedmont Community Charter is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.
