It was a good run, but the Lanham Christian Lions unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Monday. They fell to Springdale Prep 61-55. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Lanham Christian came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 24th, while Springdale Prep is ranked 93rd).
Several Lions players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Diego Joy, who scored 22 points along with two steals. Jamar Payen was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with two steals.
Springdale Prep's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from D'yan Carter, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. Carter also posted two+ blocks for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Micah Massey, who scored ten points along with five assists and four steals.
Lanham Christian's loss dropped their record down to 13-3. As for Springdale Prep, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
Lanham Christian won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Calverton at 4:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Calverton is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak. As for Springdale Prep, they will head out on the road to square off against Rosedale Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
