Finneytown hasn't had much luck against Reading recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Wildcats will take on the Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with 11 defeats in a row, Finneytown turned things around against Withrow on Saturday. They walked away with an 8-5 win over the Tigers.
The team relied heavily on Daniel Mefford, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jordan Frost, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
Reading never got on the board in their matchup on Thursday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Finneytown on Friday. They blew past the Wildcats 13-3. Considering the Blue Devils' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Connor Davis made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out 13 batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Charlie Hess was incredible, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs, three doubles, and two RBI. Carter Reed was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Reading always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .537. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Finneytown only posted an OBP of .344.
Finneytown's record is now 3-11. As for Reading, their record now sits at 12-6.
Finneytown suffered a grim 13-3 defeat to Reading in their previous meeting on Friday. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
