The Macon County Tigers will venture away from home to square off against the Allen County-Scottsville Patriots at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Macon County has six straight victories, Allen County-Scottsville has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Tigers on Thursday. Macon County's pitcher stepped up to hand DeKalb County a 10-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for Macon County, who have now won 11 matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Braylon Flowers made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over six innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
In other batting news, Macon County let Matthew Wheeley and Jake Meador run wild. Wheeley went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Meador got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI Wheeley has posted over his last 13 games. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaden Woodard, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Macon County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .500 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Logan County hit Allen County-Scottsville with a eight-run third inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Patriots lost 12-2 to the Cougars. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Patriots have suffered since March 17th.
Macon County's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-9. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Allen County-Scottsville, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-12.
Macon County might still be hurting after the 12-3 loss they got from Allen County-Scottsville when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
