After a string of three wins, the Evergreen Christian Eagles's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell just short of Patriot by a score of 74-71. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game last Thursday (57), Evergreen Christian still had to take the loss.
Loss or not, Evergreen Christian got some senior leadership from Matthew Shelton and Rodney Ekwoanya. Shelton scored 21 points along with eight assists and five rebounds, while Ekwoanya. dropped a double-double on 18 points and 19 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Shelton posted eight or more assists. Zach Cook was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Evergreen Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 16-6. As for Patriot, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season.
Evergreen Christian on the road again on Monday and play against Covenant Christian Academy at 4:45 p.m. on January 22nd.
