Despite the defeat, Tennessee saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Addie Wilhoit posted 20 points and three steals. Wilhoit has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kerigan West, who scored six points.
Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led David Crockett over Dobyns-Bennett in every quarter on their way to victory on Saturday. David Crockett was the clear victor by a 48-25 margin over Dobyns-Bennett. The Pioneers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 15 games by 20 points or more this season.
David Crockett's win came from a few key players Tennessee will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Aaliyah Story, who earned eight points in addition to eight boards and three blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayleigh Doner, who had 12 points.
David Crockett is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 24-3 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy: their three-point shooting accuracy was 34.3% in those games and 29.6% outside of them. As for Tennessee, their loss dropped their record down to 10-14.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Tennessee has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 25.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like David Crockett struggles in that department as they've been averaging 34.1 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Tennessee was dealt a bruising 68-33 defeat at the hands of David Crockett when the teams last played back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of David Crockett's Brylee Tullock, who went 10 of 14 on her way to 23 points. Now that Tennessee knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
