The Geneva Knights scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Merritt Island Christian and snuck past 61-59. The victory was some much needed relief for Geneva as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.
When it comes to explaining why Merritt Island Christian lost, one person who can't be blamed is Trey Nevad. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 23 points and 16 rebounds. Nevad scored a full 39% of Merritt Island Christian's points, the sixth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Carter Stevenson was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with three steals.
Even though they lost, Merritt Island Christian were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Geneva's victory bumped their record up to 4-6. As for Merritt Island Christian, they have fallen quite a ways from their 17-8 record last season and are now at 1-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Geneva will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Calvary Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Merritt Island Christian and Orlando Science will face off at 5:30 p.m. on December 21st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
