The Wellington Eagles put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They really took it to Bennett for the full four quarters, racking up a 56-14 victory at home. Considering Wellington has won six matches by more than 21 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Cash Altschwager continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 179 yards and four touchdowns on only five carries, while also picking up 52 receiving yards. Altschwager's longest rush was for an incredible 97 yards. Tanner Gray was another key contributor, rushing for 85 yards and a touchdown.
Despite the loss, Bennett saw an underclassman step up: Austin Stiers picked up 167 receiving yards, and also rushed for 91 yards.
Wellington's win was their fourth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 9-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-8 Bennett and 2-7 Valley (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 27.8% over those games). As for Bennett, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.
Wellington will head out on the road to face off against Berthoud at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Berthoud's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last five matchups. Bennett does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
