Sale Creek is a perfect 3-0 against Midway since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Panthers will head out to face off against the Green Wave at 5:30 p.m. Sale Creek will be strutting in after a win while Midway will be coming in after a defeat.
Sale Creek's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Lookout Valley 12-0. The Panthers have beaten the Yellowjackets the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Yellowjackets has come to flipping the script.
Jackson McClendon was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024. Dylan Cunningham also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Sale Creek always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Midway was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-5 heartbreaker at the hands of Greenback. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Green Wave have suffered since March 19, 2024.
Peyton Steele made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Midway is 4-1 when Steele posts two or more runs, but 3-9 otherwise.
Sale Creek's victory bumped their record up to 9-4. As for Midway, their loss dropped their record down to 7-10.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Sale Creek has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Midway struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Sale Creek was able to grind out a solid win over Midway in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 8-4. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Green Wave have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
