Fayette Ware is 0-6 against Haywood since April of 2019 but things could change on Thursday. The Wildcats will venture away from home to square off against the Tomcats at 5:30 p.m. Fayette Ware has given up an average of 14.8 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Fayette Ware is headed into Thursday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their tenth straight game on Wednesday. They lost 18-6 to Germantown.
Meanwhile, Haywood hadn't done well against Bolivar Central recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Tomcats blew past the Tigers 9-2. The victory was nothing new for the Tomcats as they're now sitting on three straight.
Lillian Scott made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out 17 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two doubles.
In other batting news, Karly Young was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Averie Parnell also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Haywood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bolivar Central only posted an OBP of .231.
Haywood's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Fayette Ware, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-14.
Thursday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Fayette Ware has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .582. However, it's not like Haywood struggles in that department as they've averaged .543. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Fayette Ware might still be hurting after the 20-6 loss they got from Haywood when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
